What learners work on

Lessons develop water confidence, body position, propulsion, breathing and safe independent participation at a level appropriate to the swimmer’s demonstrated readiness. Coaches should adapt practice to age, coordination and confidence.

Readiness and progression

Placement is based on observed competence rather than age or a fixed number of lessons. A learner should perform the current skills calmly and consistently before progressing to the next SSI student level.

Assessment and certificate guidance

Ask Swim2u to confirm the current assessment criteria, certificate availability and administrative process before enrolment. Programme requirements may be revised, and lesson completion alone does not guarantee certification.

Frequently asked questions

How long does this certificate level take?

There is no guaranteed duration. Attendance, confidence, coordination and practice quality all affect progress.

Can a child skip this level?

A coach may recommend a different placement after assessing the learner’s current skills. The aim is a safe, suitable starting point rather than moving through names quickly.

Is this a SwimSafer certificate?

No. SSI student certification and SwimSafer are separate programmes with different criteria and administration.
