Advancement and Accreditation in SUTD Swimming Lessons for Children and Adults

The learning progression is meticulously structured to guide swimmers from early water familiarization to advanced skills and team preparation. Here is a breakdown of the progression:

1. Aquatike (I, II, III): This initial program is split into three progressive levels, tailored for infants and toddlers. It begins with Aquatike I, where the focus is on water acclimation and basic motor skills. In Aquatike II, children start to develop independent movement with fundamental swim strokes, and by Aquatike III, they learn to coordinate more complex swim patterns and begin basic water safety.

2. Pre-School: Targeted at pre-school-aged children, this stage emphasizes building a foundation in swimming. Kids learn proper stroke techniques, breath control, and are encouraged to swim with increasing independence, preparing them for the more formalized learning in the beginner level.

3. Beginner: This level is where fundamental swimming skills are honed. Swimmers are taught the core strokes – freestyle and backstroke – and begin to build the endurance needed for more advanced swimming, focusing on technique, safety, and confidence.

4. Intermediate: Swimmers who have mastered the basics move on to intermediate classes, where they improve stroke mechanics, start learning competitive strokes like the breaststroke and butterfly, and are introduced to skills such as flip turns and starts.

5. Advanced: Advanced classes refine all four competitive strokes, improve speed and efficiency, and emphasize endurance. Swimmers at this level may also learn advanced water safety skills and rescue techniques, setting the stage for lifeguarding or other aquatic responsibilities.

6. Swim Team Prep: This stage is designed for swimmers who are considering competitive swimming. It focuses on the physical conditioning and technical refinement needed for swim meets, including starts, turns, and race strategy.

7. Adults: Adult classes cater to various skill levels, from beginners to those seeking to improve their technique or train for specific goals. These classes often focus on fitness, technique refinement, and can be tailored to individual needs, whether it’s learning to swim for the first time or training for a triathlon.

Each level in SSI’s curriculum is designed to provide the necessary skills and confidence to progress to the next, ensuring a seamless development in swimmers’ abilities. As learners advance through the levels, they receive certificates and badges that acknowledge their accomplishments and mastery of the skills required at each stage.
